The purpose of this project was to create a realistic vector illustration showing the expanded view of a mechanical object. A surgical tool known as an external fixator was chosen for the purposes of this project. External fixators are used to stabilize severe bone fractures. This specific external fixator was used to stabilize a fracture of the ulna.
Medium: Adobe Illustrator
Audience: Medical Doctors
Process Work
To begin the project the external fixator was assembled and staged using kneaded erasers to hold it in place. An upper left hand light source was set up, and the artist photographed the object in place.
Final view used for project
After staging the external fixator in several positions, one of the positions was chosen and the photograph was brought into Adobe Illustrator where the main shapes were traced.
